About this borough

Woodlynne is among the densest places in New Jersey.

Woodlynne Borough was incorporated in 1901 from Centre Township. The 0.16 sq mi borough is one of the densest places in New Jersey by population — nearly 3,000 residents in a footprint smaller than most college campuses. Lots are tight, blocks are short, and the canopy is mostly mature street trees in narrow tree-lawns.

Tree work here is largely sidewalk-clearance, hazard removal of failing street-tree-lawn specimens, and tight-access rigging. There’s no swinging-room for big drops — almost every removal is rigged down piece by piece.

Compact-borough profile

Dense urban-borough canopy on tight blocks.

Population density drives tree work here. Every mature tree affects multiple properties; every removal needs choreographed access.

What we do — pruning, removal, plant health, risk.

Six services shaped for small-borough conditions: tight lots, shared canopy, narrow access.

Tree Removal

Need a tree removed in Woodlynne? One of New Jersey's smallest boroughs by area, Woodlynne's tight rowhome and small-lot blocks leave very little room for backyard tree work. We bring the right rigging for the space, drop sections one piece at a time, and protect what's around the work zone. Lawn protected, full cleanup. Call (856) 241-0489.

Plant Health Care

Local pressure

Three pressures specific to Woodlynne's tree canopy.

Density compresses every variable — access, drop zone, neighbor coordination.

01

Tight blocks, patient work

Most blocks have no driveway. Rigging-down piece-by-piece from the street is standard. Bucket-truck staging requires PD permits in some sections.

02

Trees that span property lines

One street-tree dominates 2-3 properties. Pruning and removal decisions cross property lines on every block.

03

Norway maples, late in their lives

A large share of the canopy was Norway maple from mid-century plantings — now declining and stress-prone. What you plant next matters as much as what comes down.

Diagnostic checklist

When a tree has to come down — and when it doesn’t.

Woodlynne was incorporated in 1901 from Centre Township (renamed Haddon Township in 1908), making it one of the older small Camden County boroughs. Most of the residential canopy was planted as the borough developed in the early 1900s — over a century of growth on many of those trees. Six signs Paul looks for first.

01 · Diagnostic

Vertical cracks in the trunk

Splits running up or down the main trunk indicate structural failure has begun.

02 · Diagnostic

Bark peeling in large chunks

Healthy trees shed bark slowly. Large patches falling away in a single season point to internal decline.

03 · Diagnostic

Fungus growing on the trunk or root flare

Mushroom conks at the base or running up the trunk are evidence of structural decay.

04 · Diagnostic

Significant lean toward a structure

New leans, or worsening leans — especially after a storm — mean the root plate may be compromised.

05 · Diagnostic

Lightning damage or split crown

Lightning-struck trees often show crown dieback within 12–18 months.

06 · Diagnostic

EAB canopy thinning on ash trees

If your ash tree’s upper canopy is 30%+ thinned, the tree is past treatment threshold.

Great experience from the quote to finish! They removed a tree that was leaning against other trees that could have shattered my fence and gone in neighbors yard. They were friendly and did a first class job! Will definitely use them in the future!

I have a Japanese Maple in my yard and it was looking a little shabby. Paul came out and shaped, and pruned it. I looked and had a hard time seeing where it had been cut, then I looked in the bed of his truck and it was overflowing with branches with red leaves. I couldn't believe how much how much came off and yet it looked completely natural. Then he explained all about the species of tree and how it needs to be handled. Extremely knowledgeable.

Overall amazing experience with this company. Same day return phone call, next day quote, and schedule service the day after approval. What more can you ask than that, they did a great job cleaning up even with a frozen snow covered ground.

From the initial phone call, to the actual clean up, service was excellent. initial phone call for service was made on April 10th, had an estimate by April 11th, an appointment by the 14th and service on the 15th. The young lady that led the team and her crew were very professional and friendly. From start to finish, the whole job took less that an hour. Very pleased with the results.

WOODLYNNE · Common questions

Common questions, specific answers.

Real questions from real property owners in Woodlynne — about credentials, process, and the work we do.

What’s your NJ Tree Care License number?

NJ Licensed Tree Expert #408 — held by Paul D. Biester since 1993. Most NJ tree services display a single license number. We hold the credentials triad — NJ LTE #408 + TCIA Accreditation + CTSP — with explicit verification.

Do you offer cabling and bracing for older Woodlynne trees?

Yes. Cabling and bracing extends the life of mature heritage trees. We use TRAQ-qualified risk assessment.

Are you BBB-Accredited?

Tree Awareness, Inc. is TCIA-Accredited — more rigorous than BBB for tree service specifically.

How long have you been working in this corner of Camden County?

Since 1993 — over 30 years. The differentiator is the credentials we hold and the owner-on-every-job model.

Can you handle rowhome-block crane access?

Yes. With 0.16 sq mi of mostly rowhome and twin construction, most removals require crane setup from the street. We coordinate with the borough on traffic control, plan rigging around tight-lot geometries, and protect sidewalks and parked cars during the work.

What about street trees that span multiple property lines?

One mature street tree in Woodlynne often dominates 2-3 properties. We coordinate with the borough and adjacent owners before pruning or removal — written documentation provided for property files when work crosses boundaries.

What's the right replacement strategy for declining mid-century Norway maples?

Norway maple is invasive in NJ and now considered a poor street-tree choice. We recommend native or non-invasive replacements appropriate to the borough's narrow tree-lawn footprint — species like red maple, sweet gum, or smaller-canopy trees that won't outgrow the space. We help plan species selection during removal consults.
